Is it possible to use numbers below 1 for frequency in modify gradients - such as 0.5 and then have the result expand back in to fill the gradient? Maybe even allow which 127 or 128 to keep. is there another way to expand part of a palette to a whole palette?

That would be so handy to have a button to do this! I have been able to expand the strip viewer but it was by accident and I'm not sure why it happened.
Here is another resource for working with gradients. If your gradient is very simple, you might be able to use ApoMap. Download and install ApoMap, found here:
http://www.apophysis.org/
As far as I know, ApoMap also lacks the ability to stretch out the gradient. but it has a fun window (Graph) where you can the proportion of RGB at each position.
It just makes it a little easier to see what color is happening on each position.
You can look at an ApoMap tutorial at deviantArt.

Just saw this - thank you very much - I now have Apomap and am using it. Didn't know about the tutorial so I do appreciate that very much! Ended up looking at all kinds of stuff with varying degrees of sucess. Apomap has the most of all - thanks again! I haven't gotten fully into the Fractal Science Kit yet but it looks limited.
